KiwiSaver is the new voluntary, work based retirement savings initiative introduced by the Government which started on 1 July 2007. Contributions are either 2%, 4% or 8% of your gross salary. From 1 April 2008 employers are also required to contribute to the scheme, starting at 1% of your gross salary. From 1 April 2009 this became a maximum compulsory employer's contribution of 2%.
